The campaign of Ohio Republican governor nominee Vivek Ramaswamy said it would launch a $4 million ad campaign featuring a controversial video of his Democratic opponent’s estranged mom after it went viral online.
The video – which was shared widely on social media, including by the president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr. – has roiled the gubernatorial race by bringing the issue of Democratic nominee Amy Acton’s past abuse to the forefront. Acton has said she has not seen her mother since she was about 12 years old, when a man her mother married abused her and faced criminal charges.
CNN’s Patrick Svitek reports on the controversy, while Democratic strategist Paul Begala and Republican strategist Terry Sullivan condemn the ad as “a moral malignancy” and “stupid,” respectively. Also, CNN’s Abby Phillip discusses the controversy with her NewsNight panel of political pundits.

Shouldn't the mother have been charged with aiding and abetting a convicted felon that fled the state. Why hasnt she been forced to face criminal charges? The man who committed the crime is dead and can not face a court, but the mother is still alive. Surely, if she is brazen enough to do a commercial, she is well enough to face outstanding criminal charges.

I was born in Ohio, Southeastern Ohio. How a guy with a name like his got political traction in Ohio boggles my mind.

I live in Illinois, but this situation is disturbing to me. My birth "mother" was a TON OF SHIT, but things were different during the 60's. If you were being abused OR neglected, you were RARELY taken out of the home. In the early 70's, new attitudes and new LAWS came into effect. I'm happy Amy was able to get away from her abuser. I got away from after 18 years and one day, however, I was crippled with two children under the age of 3. I came from a STRONG community that knew her and the mistreatment of some of her children. I was DETERMINED that I would NOT live like her. It took a while, within two years, I had a job, obtained an EXCELLENT BABY SISTER and a SUPPORT SYSTEM OF PEOPLE THAT TRULY LOVED ME AS I DID THEM. My oldest grandchild is an attorney, my son is a businessman and my daughter is an educator. I stayed away from my egg donor for years. The day I got my first degree (from a private university) her sister told her that I had a degree, she told her sister that she did not recall having a daughter by that name, which was fine with me. A couple of times over the years, I reminded her of the beatings that I endured with extension cards, soup bowels BROKEN OF MY HEAD, being accused of having her man at the age of 12, walking to school in the winter with paper in my shoes, in Chicago. I could go on, but I guess what I am attempting to say, is Amy did not let ANYTHING, NOTHING, stop her and for this man to pull up this old chit brings, well it brings him to a new level of low. Her mother said that she was lying, my egg donor would say the same thing. Thank you all for reading this roaming post, however, I understand what this woman has gone through.
