  1. I was diagnosed 20 years ago after years of being treated for just depression. My mental health nurse one day noticed my sudden rapid speech, waking early on a complete high and unusual spending habits. She told me she thought I was bipolar and after a discussion with my psychiatrist I was finally given a diagnosis and put on lithium. My mood has been very stable since, but I do wonder am I really bipolar? Is getting up early raring to go, annoyed at others for still being asleep, get up you lot! Being full of beans, is that really mania? I’m not sure.

  2. People with emotional dysregulation from ADHD (like me) or Borderline Personality Disorder(like my mother), often get misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder! Thank God I had a 3 hour neuropsychologist test report to hand over to them!

  3. As a psychiatrist I have to say that what he got right is that bipolar disorder can present in different ways. Bipolar disorder is not synonymous with bipolar depression. One is part of the other. There are some other generalizations that are equivocal, but I get his intention to educate is in well intentioned

  4. what if i'm depressed for months or years and then just come out for a month and then am just mildly low after for a long long time? i take meds but i just feel like this is increasingly difficult as i age. when i was young i was low all the time and smoking cigs and drinking HEAVILY was a great help but only because i was a) young and b) SURROUNDED by people like me in college. now im a middle aged professional who has messed up every relationship and job and just not at a place where i can rely on people and that is so fucking sad. i see a therapist and drs but cbt fucking sucks and dbt isn't covered by insurance and it's just like other than exercise (especially with people) i'm cooked. i'm also disabled and deal with extreme pain so working out is more difficult for me to restore from than others too. life has been a struggle for a long time

  5. my girlfriend has both bipolar and borderline, let me tell you it’s one hell of a rollercoaster of emotions every single day.. obviously it’s a lot worse for her but living with it trying to be a loving and caring partner unfortunately brings alot of unwanted emotional pain but I won’t back down for her as I made her a promise that I’m going to keep even on the worst days

  7. I got very lucky and have had medical professionals who worked with me to get FMLA. Also I've had nicer tech jobs that are work from home and accept those FMLA terms. Otherwise I'd be chronically unemployed. It's being aware of your ups or downs that hurts the most. Or doing things you regret later when you get better that make this such a burden

  8. I was first diagnosed with BPD, regardless of what I felt but I kept thanking god saying at least I'm not bipolar which looked more terrifying for me..
Recently I've been diagnosed with both BPD & Bipolar | | and ironically i dunno how to think about it anymore 😂💔

  9. I regret ever getting help in the first place cuz then everybody uses it against you and then they end up putting all the blame on one person I've learned I want nothing to do with anybody that doesn't love me back anymore I'm getting older and time is short those that destroy lives will have their day, God knows😢💔

  10. I saw such a radical shift in personality, like I was living with multiple personalities. It happened quickly , followed by isolating himself and/running away. Yes , I believe these were cycling episodes. It started in Nov and by late June he took his life. Undiagnosed , not treated, led to my beloved’s suicide. Not everyone is willing to see a Dr . I tried. Getting thru to a strong willed, high IQ, extremely kind to me, middle aged man , was impossible.

  11. I'm Bipolar I. I hate my life. Nobody deserves to be forced to live this way. I'm in a depressed state right now and I'm really, really struggling. I don't know how I've made it to 45 years of age.

  12. I love him I been with him a few yrs and it's stressful on me bc I have family that lives in ga I live in Louisiana and he never wants to be around any one not my family or his it's a rollercoaster 🎢
