Either way it was an illusion I think.
I think for him that moment was an illusion.
I feel like second has more meaning than we think. More than first
Sonic is a hopeful and heroic hero..
he’s almost an embodiment of hope. Throughout every struggle he’ll do whatever it takes to protect everyone. He’s the Sonic Hero.
But that’s the thing. Hope.
Second for the most part is the only one who has for almost this entire time, clung onto hope.
He hasn’t clung onto this craving for wanting to live again knowing it’s impossible, he hasn’t started becoming hopeless and careless like first did.
But he’s been hopeful to try to hold everyone together even if he doesn’t know how to. He’s longing to find first thinking he has the answer.. when I feel like second is actually just as capable.. all of them are.
Second is the embodiment of hope compared to the rest of them.
Second I feel like can be seen as the true Sonic.
I also think that due to this.. him being put through these illusions is the result in keeping up hope and longing to find first.
Maybe it’s life itself showing him how things could turn out either way. What life is.
That or it was a sign of what was to come. And it chose him to see that because of his hope. Maybe so he could prevent any further deaths. Or tried to.
