Mutant X was the top syndicated TV show of 2001, but its success was overshadowed by a massive legal fight.
This series adapted the classic mutant formula to create a new team of heroes that actually managed to outperform Buffy the Vampire Slayer. While it achieved massive popularity, the show was plagued by problems from the very start, including a major Marvel lawsuit filed by Fox before the pilot even aired.
The production faced constant instability, from the sudden departure of Lauren Lee Smith and the death of her character to the eventual cancellation of a planned fourth season when Fireworks Entertainment went out of business.

I think i saw Mutant X in passing once on TV
was really confused wasn't sure what i was watching
i knew the X-Men and the title threw me off
so i got bored and changed the channel
also i wasn't really aware of Tv schedules and when stuff came on and all that
so i kind of forgot about it
and i think bc it wasn't a cartoon and i think the way it looked and i would've been in elementary school at the time, i wouldn't have been interested in this
i think for me superhero stuff at least the live action tv stuff got really good and made me go woah when i found Heroes in 2008 right when the Writer's Strike happened
i'd go back and find season 1 on DVD and I thought that show was one of the greatest things I had ever seen before as far as live action tv shows
but yeah on this Mutant X show, yeah, not for me
i think maybe i might watch this as a historical thing now to see what they pulled off and see if there's anything in here i like, but might not be likely 🤷♂
Bit of pointless trivia here: The originally proposed codenames for the team were "Synergy" for Jesse, "Shadowfox" for Shalimar, "Fuse" for Brennan and "Rapport" for Emma.
Forbes March tells a fun story about his audition. Jesse ended up with neither the powers nor the backstory originally planned. He was intended to be able to change his appearance to mimic other people (like the X-Men's Mystique or Morph) and also to split into three individual copies of himself; one macho, one sensitive and one logical, who would be able to work in union (theoretically) and solve problems faster (hence "Synergy"). March noted that the audition read through, when he was trying to play three versions of the same character (and who he barely knew) yet was absolutely NUTS!
Jesse was also intended to have been a designer baby in a literal sense. The blond haired, blue eyed, “perfect son” for an ambitious politician who was unable to have children of his own, so when his mutant powers manifested he was rejected by his father for being imperfect (His father was planned to become a recurring political adversary in the series), but that never materialised and his father became a rogue government agent who married into a rich family.

I do remember watching Mutant X because I was the target audience intended for the series: the ones who enjoyed the first X-Men movie and was eager to watch any product that closely resembled that film.
Basically an X-Men ripoff. I remember avoiding this imitation back in the day.
I loved this show when I was an early teenager. The villain from season 2 was also a soap opera star. My Mom loved that dude.

I caught it on UK TV and enjoyed it. Lex Luthor leads group of 4 super heroes in fight against evil albino Andy Warhol. It was kinda low budget, silly fun but still quite enjoyable.
I've seen reruns on of the live Roku channels. It's a shame I didn't catch in on Tv back in the day. I'm surprised Marvel never tried to expand on these characters. They at least deserve a spot in the greater X men mythology.
