The Secret B Vitamin Behind Gray Hair, Aging Skin, & Gut Health

📅 Ready to stop guessing and start investigating? Watch the free training to see if working together is the right fit:

If you have been watching your hair gray faster than expected, or your skin seems more reactive than it used to be, and your B vitamin labs keep coming back normal, this is where that frustrating gap starts to make sense.

Most conversations about B vitamins focus on what you eat and what you absorb. What rarely gets discussed is that your gut is supposed to manufacture some of those B vitamins itself, using the bacterial community living there as a kind of internal production facility. When that capacity slips, a standard panel can still look fine on paper while the visible signals keep stacking up.

PABA, formerly listed as vitamin B10, sits at the center of this production pathway. It feeds into folate synthesis, and folate feeds into the methylation cycle that your pigment-producing cells, among many others, depend on to function. When the microbial environment that runs this system degrades, the effects tend to show up in places most people would not think to connect to their gut.

The pattern I see most often is a cluster of signals, premature graying, skin sensitivity, fatigue, and digestive sluggishness, being read as separate deficiencies to correct one at a time rather than a single story about production capacity. Identifying which question to ask first changes what the investigation looks like entirely.

If your labs have come back normal but your hair, skin, or energy are telling a different story, that gap is exactly what this video is about: your gut may have lost its capacity to produce the B vitamins your cells depend on, and standard testing simply does not measure that.

I am curious: if you have brought this kind of concern to your doctor and been told your levels look fine, what happened next? Did the conversation go anywhere, or did it stop there? Drop it in the comments.

  2. 25HydroxyVitaminD3 level test. (Need 60 to 80 ng/ml)
D3 is the hormone that provides a favorable environment for the microbiota that produce B vitamins- low D3 means microbiome changes .
If you work indoors, if you use sunscreen, then without D3 supplementation you are losing your microbiome, graying your hair and causing digestive issues among many other things.

  3. Vitamin B10 is a historical name for para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA). Amongst other uses, can be converted into Folate (Vitamin B9) but I don't think we convert it ourselves – needs to be done by health gut bacteria or intake folate from other sources.

  6. What you have described in this video is exactly what I have experienced. Multiple courses of Tetracycline in early 20s for Acne. A course of Accutane, followed by weird illness in later 20s. Extreme grey hair in late 20s and poor skin quality and breakouts continued throughout life. Senior citizen now with low B vitamins in current testing complicated by MTHFR gene mutation and high Homocysteine. Thank you so much for this video!!!

  7. @drkennymittelstadt How much of an impact do you think glyphosate in our environment and food has on our gut microbiome and being able to restore it back to a healthy and functional condition? Are there any studies on that relationship and overcoming its effects?

  8. I showed this video to my neighbor and she said oh you need to read the book Rogue Remedies by Ruth Vance. Turns out FOUR women on my street have already read it. That should tell you something.

  9. Super fascinating and educational deep dive into gut health, B vitamins, and the secret role of PABA!

Adding a few text callouts on screen for the main scientific mechanisms and microbiome insights would make the video even better.

  10. Fantastic and highly educational health video explaining the role of PABA, gut health, and B vitamins in aging and wellness. One small area for improvement could be adding quick on screen summaries or bullet points when discussing biological mechanisms to make the medical insights even easier to follow.

As a professional video editor and thumbnail designer, I have actually created a custom thumbnail for this video that can help boost your click through rate. Please let me know which communication channel works best for you to receive it.

  11. I am a professional video editor and thumbnail designer. This was a very insightful video on how B vitamin deficiencies and gut health impact gray hair and aging skin. I have actually designed a custom thumbnail for this video that I believe would really help it stand out and attract more viewers. What is the best way for me to send it over to you so you can take a look?

  12. Would you recommend Allicin as a good natural remedy for methane sibo? If so, what dosing is advisable? I want natural remedies so I don’t continue to disrupt my gut biome. Thank you!

  13. When i asking my primary care physician to run alot of these tests. He did agree to some. Others he told me he cant order that test or we cant do those testsbue to the lab he sends them to. He flat out shut me down. No referral to who could help me or any alternative other than just NO.
Later i messaged him for a referral to thhe Dr i found who will & does do thos. I hate the insurance because even though i have a PPO so i CAN choose any specialist, the specialist always asks for a referral from my Dr.
That is due to insurance not the Dr.
Anyway. I am now on a scheduled appt that takes months to get into. Its frustrating when you have to do tall this & then wait when help is needed so much more earlier than they can provide.
