What an F-22 Pilot Thinks Of the Eurofighter Typhoon #Shorts

The Eurofighter Typhoon was a multinational design effort that originally included Italy, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Spain, though France later dropped out of the program due to design disagreements.
The only pilot to have flown both the F-22 Raptor and the Eurofighter Typhoon had this to say about the European design.
Gen. John P. Jumper, the former Air Force Chief of Staff, is the only person who has flown both the Eurofighter Typhoon and the F-22 Raptor. Though both aircraft are capable, according to Jumper, they are fundamentally different; “they are different kinds of airplanes to begin with,” Jumper said. “It’s like comparing a NASCAR car to a Formula 1 car.” They’re both thrilling in different ways, but they’re built for different levels of performance.”

  1. So which one is designed for ovals and which one for streets, which one has power steering and which one doesn’t, which one uses a 5.8 liter V8 and which uses a 1.6 liter V6, which one goes faster and corners better, which one costs more to build and maintain?

  2. At high level, the F22 is in it's element, at low level the Typhoon is a much better platform. The range of stores, from Meteor to Storm Shadow makes the Typhoon a much better purchase for Europe.

  3. Thanks so much for sharing the perceived differences discovered…NOT Also, you are such a great content generator that you probably didn't notice that you included an F-35 in one of the shots. Nice attention to detail. This was to be about the Typhoon and the F-22.

  4. Um, I see an F-16 and an F-35 included.
The discussion was supposed to be a comparison between the Eurofighter Typhoon and the F-22. No conclusion, either. BS.

  5. NASCAR cars can’t turn corners and F1 cars can. The EF is designed for dogfighting and the F22 has vectored thrust and unmatched manoeuvrability, so that’s a stupid analogy that I bet no professional airman ever said.

A better analogy might be an F1 car vs another F1 car that breaks the code rules by having a suction fan, skirts and adaptive damping.

  6. As always with new things, Germans are skeptical. I still remember the discussions well. As with all major projects, the Eurofighter is more expensive than expected, and the Eurofighter was dragged through the mud. And now? We're glad to have it. Other countries have bought it, too. Rheinmetall is already building new factories again. KNDS is also expanding for several production facilities. Oh, I have to say, that makes me a little proud. A little.

  7. It's a bad analogy. A nascar is a one trick pony designed to go fast around an oval, whereas an F1 car is an actual car that can do all the things cars are supposed to be able to do… like take corners.

  8. "One has two wings, but the other has two wings. Not only that, but they're not interchangeable between the two aircraft, and taco Tuesday doesn't apply to Friday because salmon swim upstream and later die"
