Why I Like Halls of Torment

Halls of Torment is my favourite game in the games-like-Vampire-Survivors genre. In this video I play a run while discussing its game design.

  1. I thought halls of torment was too easy for one of these games tbh, if you've played vampyre survivors or other such games before, youre gonna clear this game in under 10 hours with relative ease

  2. I sent Chris a short email telling him about a game I'm working on. It's still just a prototype, but he actually took the time to reply. Such a gentleman! Really means a lot to me. You're awesome Chris!

  3. Hi Chris Wilson from Light Pattern. Thanks for the upload! It's fun to see you enjoying and processing the design merits of somebody else's work, and I've love to see more uploads like this.

Also, thanks for believing in creativity and indie game developers in general. Things are feeling grim for me as we enter the age of vibe coding and one-prompt copies, especially as an amateur artist and designer.

  4. Before I watch this, can someone tell me if this is gonna spoil Vampire Survivors for me by showing me a better game? I bought it and the three main DLCs a few weeks ago and have been working toward all the unlocks.

  5. Btw you can check Character Stats from the menu or during level-up to have better information such as what affected by Force or what your current class highest stats so you can prioritize what the best possible Ability.

Also sending bottle wont affects Well's count so before sending anything to the surface feel free putting any bottle first.

  6. Hey chris i wonder did you ever hear about a game named "Mu online" this is a 23 year old mmorpg based off of diablo, worth to play probably on some private servers that have that old feel to them since the game was better back in the days but still an actuall mmorpg successor to diablo exists but isnt known that well in america, mostly europe.

  7. hi chris, im lorenz
why you not join d4 devs and bring diablo back to something good – if im blizzard, i would PAY whatever u want, bc i would get it back if you get hands on develement on diablo5

  8. I've got 264 hours on Halls of Torment, I haven't played it in a while, but it was very cool to hear all our game-dev insights while watching you play.

  9. There's a lot of things that the game doesn't tell you when u start. In the character sheet you can see what stuff life "force" does for ur character. You can see quite a few things about ur dmg /scaling etc there. Also you can throw down potions into the well for free (without consuming the well), so you can do that before you throw down items. In the end the game wont tell you about these things. Usually you find it out the hard way haha :'D

  10. its been a while since i played but from what I remember if you dont send an item up you can send as many bottles as you want before it.
another thing is that if you pick up a good item you want to use for your run and you are confident enough you are going to make it to the end you can wait till after you kill the stage boss to send up an item in the well

  11. Hellforged is an excellent upcoming game in this genre. I'd say it has a higher difficulty scaling and a bit more modern meta-progression with better gearing options. Where Halls of Torment is Diablo-influenced, I believe Hellforged is POE-influenced.
