The USA has had military personal stationed in Antartica, ever since they had bases there!! Indeed, US Navy icebreakers that visit Antartica always have marines onboard,,,,,, and if you get anywhere near the actual south Pole, you will quickly be sent packing, or arrested, by US Servicemen!!
I bet under that ice is a hell of a lot of natural minerals, natural gas, oil, and/or a BUNCH of gold and silver. These countries have been doing research there before ww 2. Same with Greenland where theres been lots of dinosaur fossils and where there were dinosaurs theres a whole lot of oil.

And ot whistamding because the treaty is gonna end soon (soon in world times obviously just a couple of decades) then we will see what happens in Antarctica (And yeah argentina still holds the longest and strongest precense as always. Qe had the furst baby born there, elections voting every yeah, etc, etc.)
