Im son to a german father and a polish mother and throughout my life it has sometimes been a little awkward for me knowing what happend between these two countries like 2 generations before me. Like how can it be that there was so much hate and not even 50 years later there is this kind of love that created me. I guess that really drew me to the history of WW2 especially with all the horrendous atrocities that happend in the concentration and death camps. When I watched BoB for the first time it completely overwhelmed me. It gave me this unbelievable feeling of gratitude towards the men who liberated Europe because without them. I wouldnt have had a chance to exist and live this beautiful life that I have with my own two children. I rewatch this show every year to never forget that there was a time, when ordinary men decided to step up so big and literally save the world because it needed to be done. I can never say thank you or give back to them but by remembering and honoring their sacrifice, it guides me to keep on doing the right thing and try to leave the world a better place for my kids and the next generations to come.
I also agree that Band of Brothers is better than Saving Private Ryan. But not just by a little bit. I think Band of brothers is vastly superior in every way. Like you pointed out maybe it's because this is an enactment of what Easy Company went through. Not a Hollywood action film that happens to take place in WW2.
Great vid as always, and so proud to be a supporter of this channel.
Band of Brothers is in that small, yet elite group of media that capture the tragedy of war the best. Like All Quiet on the Western Front, and, iykyk, Attack on Titan.
Beautiful summary of BOB. Makes me wanto to binge the full series one more time.
Band of Brothers isn't even all that good, but yes. Hollywood has been BS for a long while now.
Still superb
I clicked here because I love Band of Brothers. I just didn't realise that you would so elegantly deconstruct precisely 'why', with such wonderful sophistication, depth, and insight. Forgive me this implication, but by your accent I assume English may not be your first language – as both a natural English speaker, literature and history graduate (not bragging, just for context), I was awestruck by how magnificently you captured so many things I had never considered yet immediately knew were absolutely true.
This video in many ways is an ode to art, that itself, is, indeed, a work of art.
Chapeau on such a wonderful video.
You have no idea how many times i have seen this Show! The best ever!
Great video
I'd like to point out that Blythe (the soldier who "found his courage only to have it snuffed out soon after") Actually didn't die in the war. He survived the entire thing and died later in the 50's
Beautiful video and analysis mate.
I watch it once a year at least. And the Pacific and Masters of the Air. The latter isn't as good, but it is still worth watching. But Band of Brothers will always be the spirit.
24:15 “we are the ones living in the monument of their achievement, bearing the fruit of their sacrifice”
They absolutely CAN make a WW2 film realistic today. They just choose not to. What they did back then is more than possible today.
As a war history fan, there are no better and more realistic war movies or series than the ones produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. From Saving Private Ryan, to Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Greyhound and Masters of the Air. I am an addict of these most realistic and movies that respect the history of these people.
This is a fantastic review of a fantastic show. As a young man I looked forward with great enthisipation to the next episode each week. As some might remember this is how it was before streaming platforms existed.
I have watched the entirety of "A Band Of Brothers" a few times since it's release but I gotta say your review makes me want to watch it again with a different perspective.
Thank you
What's up with this guy's voice?
Ww2 movies now are largely just atrocity porn
And even than you can always see within five seconds if footage is real or not…
This narration is exactly why AI can go f*@k itself👊❤
I think it works so well in part because they held to the truth that in film-making, there are no small roles.❤
“A Midnight Clear” with Gary Sinese is a decent addition to the canon.👍
I would suggest that Dusty Faces by Paralight Works achieves the "real" feeling.
If you haven’t seen this, you don’t know how insanely bad Netflix’s is.
If you like this style like Band of Brothers then you should check out paralightworx they make all sorts of World War II stuff and are even making a full feature film called Dusty faces and it's going to be about the Battle for Berlin from the German perspective
I'd be grateful if they didn't make wwii movies at all. Too many have been made already. The theme is since long exhausted. New twists to the theme are getting ever more ridiculous. And I'm not talking about Returning Nazi Zombies from the Tomb-movies. They can still be fun.
25 YEARS ago? I remember watching this on television when was brand new… It didn't feel that long ago…
I'll never experience war at my age but I've watched BOB three times, every time I'm amazed. I'll be watching it again because nothing else (TV/Movie) compares.
Dang. Winters at the end. Always brings a tear to my eye. Well done on this video.
Its a very good video, thank you sir
I loved Band of Brother the moment it got released. I watched every episode when they showed it on tv as a kid. After that i bought the DVDs in the steelbook. Since then I watched it a hundred times and it never gets old. So many scenes still give me chills. Its a masterpiece.
Please make a video about the Pacific. I think it gets unfairly written off due to how good Band of Brothers is but in certain ways the Pacific is the better of the two. Certainly in how it depicts war turning men into monsters and the emotional consequences that come with that.
Losing human touch on movies and replacing it with almost real CGI is what makes movies less real. Sure The flying dutchman could have looked better or "more realistic" in pirates of the caribbean but would the actors be able to give the same emotions if they were standing in an empty room rather than talking to a fellow actor wearing motion capture…
Even when it comes down to video games… What make games like the older battlefields and older call of duty's and also the last of us or even GTA and Red Dead so epic?
The use of real people not some AI generated characters.
One of the best series ever made
Saving private ryan ,was a great film. But band of brothers is an epic piece of television. The two can't be confused with one another.
What made this series memorable to me was the number of characters introduced in the beginning and I couldn't memorize them all. Then as the show went on, I was starting to memorize some of the characters and their names and just as I did, they died. Made me rethink about how war is cruel just like that. One moment you start to get close then that person you knew was gone.
If they made it now it would focus heavily on diversity
Band of Brothers and The Pacific
Pre 2010 is the best HBO has ever been.
amazing vid!
7:13 hai ross 😅
How u doin?
I just watched the movie Lucky Strike the other day and from the opening scene the movie just looked soo fake like animated almost even the actors and vehicles it all looked soo weird like uncanny valley almost I got used to it after a while and I surprisingly ended up liking the movie a lot it was really good but if it was shot like band of brothers it would be a great movie
BofB is the best thing ever created in this genre for the big or little screen. It's one of the very few boxed sets I ever purchased on DVD and I watch it every single year around this time.
Comiming again soon to a country near you
Truly the best WW2 content ever. Band of Brothers might never be replaced or even replicated. Pure beauty on so many levels.
I absolutely love when filming is done where you know exactly where you are in a large space. They do this really well on Band of Brothers
I have NEVER noticed the guy at 2:23 with the filthy 13 engineer Mohawk, woah
…. fine, I'll go binge it again
