Why This Gen Z Chose to Stay on Pulau Ubin? (never seen before) | Gen Z Crash Course S3 EP6

In Singapore, many of us say we want to slow down: less screen time, a simpler life, kampung vibes. . Yet ten minutes by bumboat from Changi, on an island with about 30 residents left, that life still exists.

Isaac is 18 and studying for a Diploma in Design for User Experience at Republic Polytechnic. On weekdays, he lives with his parents on the mainland. On weekends and holidays, he stays with his grandparents on Pulau Ubin and helps out at the family provision shop his great-grandparents started more than 100 years ago. There is no Wi-Fi, water comes from a well, and baths are taken with a pail.

While most visitors only pass through Ubin on a bicycle, Isaac is capturing it through photography and videography, hoping to preserve a place he loves. And as the island changes around him, his story raises a question many of us rarely ask: is the slower life something we have outgrown, or something we have simply forgotten how to choose?

A special thank you to the National Parks Board (NParks) for allowing us to film on Pulau Ubin, and for the work they do every day to care for the island, its nature and its heritage. This episode would not have been possible without their support.
Thank you also to the Friends of Ubin Network (FUN) for their support.
