Wiring up a Double Socket 🧰🛠

In this short video I demonstrate how to connect up or wire up a twin socket outlet BS 1363. The technique works for wiring up both double and single sockets.

  1. I have the same wiring as you… If my wiring only has one earth wire. So it okay to connect it to either one of the dual earth terminals on a 2-gang socket, leaving the other terminal empty?

  3. I'm curious, do the conductors need to be doubled over if there are two conductors sharing a terminal?

I know that it's good practice to double over a conductor before you terminate it alone, but if you have a socket on a ring with a pair of conductors for each terminal, is it not best to just insert two straight and matching in length conductors parallel to eachother side by side, in the terminal and screw them in, if youre doubling both of them over, you're essentially fitting the size of 4 conductors into one terminal, is that not slightly overkill? Also when folding them over there's more risk of one of them sitting a little shy/or proud of the other inside the terminal, meaning your clamp or screws might not have a uniform connection – it might connect firm with one conductor and loose with the other?

  4. Thanks mate. First time changing sockets and wondered about two earth points as all other videos are putting the earth cables into one of the points. I assume splitting them is just preference?

  5. Hello Sir, Please help me, This is for my shed. The electrician left exactly two cables for a plug point. Due to undetermined other works, he was not able to install the plug point. May I ask if the two cables left out are exactly the same as yours? Is this for two Socket plug points?

  6. I've come across that separating the cpcs causes high Continuity reading so it makes it a pain in the ass to go back and open all the sockets and put both cpcs together to bring down to a satisfactory reading.

  7. Never seen line and neutral doubled over to be put in together most plates/ double skt fronts in plastic would not take them because as we know as time has gone on there made as cheap as chips and there’s little enough room to terminate them and never seen 2:5 twin made off with a knife unless you have lost your side cutters on route lol

  8. better to put a kink in the cable ends rather than flattened down and doubled over as that will tend to make the wire split entirely and also cos the receiver isnt wide enough to take a doubled over end.
