Why You Should NEVER (Usually) Use The Same Split (Pigtail) PCIe PSU Cable #Shorts

A #shorts video which is a bit of a PSA (public service announcement): if you are installing a high end graphics card that has peak power usage of MORE THAN 250w (watts), you should run multiple, separate cables to it from your PSU. Otherwise you could be underpowering – and harming – your expensive graphics card. #PCBuild #GPU #PSU

  1. Lol you don't have to do this with Corsair PSUs, they literally have an article on their website that says this "If you have a GPU with two 8-pin PCIe connectors, its approximate power requirement is in the range of 151-300W. As a result, you'll only require a single cable with pigtail connectors (assuming you're using a CORSAIR PSU), rather than run two individual cables. If you have a GPU with three 8-pin PCIe connectors, then it'll also be perfectly fine to use one pigtail connector paired with an individual one."

The 150watt rating is for the connector head, not the cables themselves, high quality PSU can run over 300 watts of a single 8 pin pig tail connector because they use a heavier gauge wire…….

  2. I have an rx 9070xt and I have the same cables here with me, I havent installed it yet will it most likely explode if I do this? it goes 2 entry for 8 pins and I have a pigtail 2×6+2

  3. You also dont get the same game play full 4k quality or fps it doesn't nessacarily increase it but the split power with 2 cables supplies full power so it will run better / smoother then if you were to use yhe single cable with pig tail. This make low fps and glitchy screen lines ect. I was gonna buy an new graphics card until I thought of this and it actually worked it became more stable with the 2 8 pin cables

  4. Finally saw something that helped me. I was wondering which of the two from the pigtail should i use since they initially look different. Good thing I can use either of them. I'll just decide on which depending on the length that I need since the other end has a slightly longer reach. Thank you

  5. I used two 6+2 cables with a 6conneftion daisy chain having off, connected the 6+2 pin parts to a 12 pin adapter it came with and it won’t power the gpu/ I get a red light and no display, any thoughts?

  6. If the daisy chain does about 225 watts and the motherboard provides 75, doesn't this mean you can run high end 2 8 pin connector graphics cards with an undervolt?

  7. so I've been using my rtx 3080 with just 1 cable for years now and, (comparing how my games look vs how games look on my friend's computers), my games have always looked slower while my friend's games looked faster, despite them having less fps than mine. is it because i have only been using 1 cable instead of 2 seperate ones?

  8. Reading the replies I am so confused now. In my case I want to upgrade to a RTX 5070 with a 250W TDP, the PSU can deliver 850W and it has the pigtail connector. I've seen tests around and the gaming consumption is around 190-210W. In that case, can I connect my GPU with the pigtail connector without issues?
