Claude for free: what the free plan really gives you, why “unlimited” doesn’t exist, and three ways to stretch your limit.
Stretch Claude’s free limit:
1. When a long chat starts eating your limit, start a new chat.
2. Put files you reuse into a project: Anthropic says content in projects counts less against your limits.
3. For a simple task, switch the model to Haiku.
4. Still not enough? Pro is $20 a month with at least five times the usage per five-hour session.
Claude for free: what you really get, checked on Anthropic’s own pages. The free plan is real: Sonnet, web search, memory, up to five projects, even Claude Slides and Docs. Your limit resets on a rolling five-hour window with no fixed number of messages, and unlimited doesn’t exist on any plan. Extra accounts break Anthropic’s rules, and a free “Claude” website may not be Claude at all. To stretch what you have: start a new chat when a long one eats your limit, put files you reuse into a project (they count less there), and switch to Haiku for simple tasks. Still not enough? Pro is $20 a month with at least five times the usage.
