H Is For Hawk – Official Trailer

When Helen’s beloved father passes away, she is knocked sideways by grief and loses herself in memories of their time birding and exploring the natural world together. She becomes obsessed with the idea of training her own goshawk, and so she brings the fearsome bird Mabel home to her life as a graduate fellow at Cambridge.

Helen fills the freezer with hawk food and turns off her phone, ready to embark on the long, strange business of trying to train this wildest of animals. But as she labours to tame Mabel, a grieving Helen undergoes an untaming of her own.

A record of a spiritual journey, H IS FOR HAWK is a story about memory and nature and how it might be possible to reconcile death with life and love.

  1. The scene where the guy asks why they don't just feed it birdseed is infuriating to watch. You would be surprised that, even with AI and Google Search at their fingertips, there are still people who think like that… some wannabe activists in the the internet

  2. The title is a really bad choice in German, that's gon be a meme or more like, it's is already a meme 😭😭😭😭😭😭 did no one know this or looked over it oml

  3. Superb film. I've not long lost my dad in October struggling to cope. 😥.I could see a lot of helen in myself just want to shut the world out seeing a psychologist as well and Mandy Denise Gough was excellent. There was no judgement on her friend just being there coming round making sure she was alright blinds clothed not eating well and sleeping in her cardboard box just had me weeping through my own emotions. My mum is still living but I struggle to cope every day is a struggle. I really hope I can overcome my depression 😢. Beautiful film and beautifully made ❤❤

  4. I went to see this yesterday. A truly marvellous film. Helen Macdonald's beautiful and heart breaking memoir couldn't have been done better. Claire Foy is simply magnificent and restrained in showing the shear grief of losing a loved one and her connection to Mabel. The shots of Mabel hunting are exhilarating. Five stars richly deserved for everyone involved.
