Sometimes the rides you’re proudest of don’t come with a trophy and this NSBA World Show was certainly an emotional one. 🐴💕
In this video, I’m taking you along as I show Hollywood in Novice Amateur Western Riding, Novice Trail, and Amateur Western Riding. You’ll come behind the scenes for my lessons with Charlie Cole, our practice rides, and all the little adjustments that helped Hollywood and me work together more effortlessly.
Our Novice Western Riding pattern was one of my best rides yet, but a split-second mistake after the crowd erupted into cheers resulted in a disqualification. It was heartbreaking knowing our score could have earned a trophy, but I’m still incredibly proud of the pattern we laid down.
I also stepped outside my comfort zone in Trail, made the top 20, and left the arena feeling more confident than ever. We finished thirteenth in a very competitive Amateur Western Riding class too!
We may not have brought home any hardware, but Hollywood did his job beautifully, and this experience gave us so much to build on before the Congress. The ups and downs are part of what makes the journey worthwhile, and I know reaching our next goal will feel even sweeter. ✨

Watching your first time riding Hollywood to now riding literally nothing compares. It’s like night and day your bond is building and your in sync with each other deffo a soul horse I’d say. You fit perfectly and my heart shattered when we saw you say you got disqualified because the work and heart you put in you’re amazing on many fronts but doing something for you is amazing to watch as an older woman and it’s taught me I need to do things for myself! Even if it’s something small.

It was like watching a different person cos im used to seeing you going round the arena. Im completely amazed at him being right in the middle of the jump logs . Watching you practicing your English style is a completely different motion of your position on the horse x you still both looked fab xx

If a horse "spooks," what else could you have done to keep him under control and keep yourself safe? Shouldn't the safety of the rider and horse be a bigger priority? I'm new to all this, so I'm asking a queston. Commenters please stay calm.

Sorry, but the dramatic music edited in & the completely different audio that caused him to “spook” is ridiculous & nobody with a brain cell believes you.
Katie should be SO proud. She had excellent rides in incredibly difficult classes, at one of the most competitive shows in the world, on a horse she has only been able to ride a handful of times!
I cringe every time I see footage of Hollywood spooking and that hand coming up after such an incredible go. 😖 Katie has perfectly demonstrated how to be an honorable and grateful sportsman, despite being a super competitive gal…she handled it so much better than most of us could! At least that shot at the trophy was ruined by people who had her back and were so thrilled for her they couldn’t contain their excitement! 😂😅
Katie, you did an amazing job on both class. So sorry that you got disqualified but glad you know you did your best and hopefully this never happens again. Your Trail was amazing for being so green. Charlies is a great teacher/trainer and so grateful for a full education and having a better understanding with every videos. I assume Hollywood is a finished horse? If so, why not bring him home so you can ride him more?

I’m really impressed with Charlie’s demeanor as a teacher. I feel he creates an environment that makes the student feel safe to be perceived, he is so clear/direct but with a conversational ease with his approach to calling out observations and corrections/tips. He gives room for responses and questions. And maybe most importantly he allows the rider to use their brain and problem solve and make decisions in the moment.

Thank you for the video, I have only done trail rides and riding in pastures, I have friends that barrel race. This is so much more complex than just trail riding.

Hollywood's lead changes are sooo pretty. Your rides were fun to watch. I winced for you at the stand and cheers lol, I was like noooo. But that's ok! You know and everyone watching knew you had done fantastic in the class. Hollywood's foot and pole aww well, he's old enough to have earned his low pole preference cackle he does everything else so pretty.
Congrats. Not just on the ribbons you did pull in the show, but for the experience you've gained. You feel more "settled" into Hollywood than the first few videos of him.
