Could the P-51 Mustang Be the Answer to Shahed Drones?
In this video, we explore whether the iconic P-51 Mustang could stand a chance against modern threats like the Shahed drone.
As warfare evolves, low-cost drones are changing the battlefield. The Shahed drone, known for its persistence and affordability, presents a new challenge for traditional air defense systems. But could older concepts—like propeller-driven fighter aircraft—still play a role today?
We break down the comparison between WWII-era aviation and modern drone technology, analyzing speed, cost, endurance, and effectiveness in real-world scenarios.
Is the future of warfare about advanced technology… or smart strategy?
Watch until the end to find out.

I would say the A1 Skyraider would be a far better choice. It not only has probably a hell of a lot longer loiter time but it has a lot of hardpoints and 20 mm cannons. It's also capable of reaching some serious damage on drone launching sites and missile launching sites as they present themselves as targets of opportunity. Plus the fact that it was designed to be carrier-based
😶…😃…😀…🥳
VOODOO 2!!!!!!!
I vote for the OV-10 Bronco. Twin engines, room for radar, liar, IR, a RIO, and PLENTY of weapons!
This was a waste of time
During WW2 the UK would down V1 rockets simply by "tipping" a wing on the V1. Doing so caused instability in its flight and it would subsequently crash often into the British Channel.
The last aircraft shown on the tarmac in the video (the P-47) is why the P-51 experienced the success it did. P-47s fought against Germany's elite pilots and won much more often than they lost. By the time the Mustang got the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, most of Germany's elite fighter pilots were dead.
Why not let our technology and our factorys make drones to hunt drones we can mass produce way more than they can . Make the reflect a certain light that can be changed every outing so our stuff won't hit are stuff . It's own friendly recognition. ?
Use lszers
Usaf cant even fly a jet
Amenaza moderna,?
p-38 'S AND p-51'S together. But we have all these new drone killing tech. But don't see it being used. The microwave swarm killer, the anti drone signal jammer drones, the new drone machine guns. We see these tested but not used in actual conflict. ????????? What about the Bullfrog ????
And Lighting, Hellcat, Corsair?
I completely agree with bringing into production modernized WW2 aircraft and using it for this task. These are proven military assets with a respectable service history.
There is an additional perk, it enables cheaper parts for those attempting to restore or keep flying original WWII airframes.
Seriously, I've been joking about arming Tom Cruise's P-51 and letting him have a go at it for weeks! 😂
any small air craft. you can mout a gun to will work
make sure the pilots have a perishit on at all times
you can bult on whatever you want to whatever you want guys get creative try shit out works cool if nit throw on somethong else try it and see nothing shohod interfear in testing what works and what dont
do what we gotta do cost shoukd not be the deciding factier our security should be
it comes down to is the damage gonna be cheaper to just let it hit and rebuild the damageed buolding lol sucksxbit its the situation we facing
and its agile
control the skys meams contril them
we have so many plains just chilling use them get some old pilots too who want to work still
US airforce should re.built the AeroCobra plane… it already has a nose cannon perfect for shooting down drones…
Only after the British supercharger was used on the B model in 1942, it was not effective in high altitudes before that version. The merlin engine and supercharger would be very difficult to reproduced cheaply. today a modern turban engine would be cheaper. but you already have a very good tool for the drones; The A10 Wart hog is an excellent tool for that use. The air force should lose the mission, funding, and plane as they only want fast jets and stealth. They should be made to give up the mission of ground support to the Marines with all funding and the A10. The Marines once they get the A-10 would never get rid of such a versatile ground attack plane.
Hogwash
With remoted control drones they could hirer RC pilots to fly drones and shoot down other drones…
Most WWII fighters would be good at this mission.
Especially heavy machine gun armed fighters.
Premise is Absurd.
Wrong question. The right question is: what's the most cost effective method to eliminate this threat. The answer may not be an aircraft. Notwithstanding the obvious question, the cost bringing piston powered aircraft back into service and the associated logistic bill is prohibitive.
B-25 gun ship with 14 .50 M-2 and 4 20mm autocannon, belly fjull of parachute grenades 😮❤❤❤❤❤🖖🤏🍻🍻🍻🍻
P-38 lightning 😮❤❤❤❤❤
YOU DO NOT NEED 50’s a couple of Minnie guns with 7.62’s could shred them in seconds!
wolverine is the best
Sign me up ! 😂😂😂
drones mostly fly at night ….. good luck with this nonsense ….. btw Russia is putting small IR missiles on drones in the swarms so they shoot back now too …
Mustang P-51 is the most beautiful airplane ever..
Saludos. Hermano, excelente video. El p51, creo es la respuesta a estos drones de baja velocidad. Bendiciones.
P-51マスタングも三角翼にしてみては、どうでしょう、見てみたいです。
Where do the pilots come from? The Quality Learing Center?
